Commissioning Your Pet Portrait
Commissioning a pet portrait is a simple and enjoyable process. To get started, I’ll need high-quality, clear photographs of your pet, ideally taken at their eye level. You can send me several photos, and I’ll help you choose the one that captures your pet’s personality and allows me to see as much detail as possible. This ensures I can create a realistic and highly detailed portrait.
Once we’ve agreed on the best photo reference, a non-refundable deposit of £100 secures your booking, with the remainder due upon completion. If, for any reason, I’m unable to complete the portrait, your deposit will be fully refunded. Please allow approximately four weeks for the portrait to be completed.
All portraits are head and shoulders unless we agree otherwise based on the photo. Framing is additional but highly recommended. If you’re local, I can arrange framing with a trusted local company. For those further afield, your portrait will be carefully mounted and protected with Glassine before shipping. More details on how to care for your portrait can be found in the "Caring for Your Portrait" section.
I’m here to help make the process smooth and enjoyable, ensuring you end up with a portrait that beautifully captures your pet.

Framing
I highly recommend framing your pastel portrait but getting this done professionally because of the medium. I can arrange this for you. I use two local small businesses who do a fabulous job. Prices vary depending on frame chosen, the size of the mount and spacer and whether you choose the non reflective glass or normal glass. Prices start from around £50 up for a beautifully ready to hang portrait taking out all the stress of sorting it out yourself!
Postage
If you are not local and cannot pick up your portrait, I can mail it to you using a tracking service from Royal Mail. Your artwork will come mounted and protected with a special paper and board so that it isn’t damaged in transit. These prices may vary so but I will let you know if they change.

Tips for Taking the Perfect Reference Photo
1. Get on Their Level: Take the photo at your pet’s eye level so they’re not looking up or down at the camera. This creates a more natural and flattering angle.
2. Fill the Frame: Stand about 3-6 feet away and zoom in so your pet fills the frame. This helps capture all the beautiful details that make them unique.
3. Use Natural Light: If possible, take the photo outdoors in natural light. This enhances the colors and details, making for a much better portrait. Avoid using a flash indoors as it can overexpose the picture and lose the subtle features.
4. Collar On or Off?: Think about whether you want your pet’s collar in the portrait or not. It’s a personal choice that can change the feel of the portrait.
5. Focus on the Features: Make sure all of your pet’s features, especially the eyes, are clearly visible. The eyes are the gateway to the soul, and capturing them well is key to a great portrait!
6. Take Multiple Shots: Snap at least 5 photos—or more if you’re not sure. Different angles and expressions can help find that perfect shot.
7. Bring a Buddy and Treats!: Having an extra pair of hands and a few treats can be super helpful to keep your pet focused and happy during the photo session.
With these tips, you’re on your way to capturing the perfect shot that will lead to a stunning, life like portrait!
